What voting method will you use?

Are you a vote by mail type? Do you mail your ballot in as soon as you receive it? Or are you a stand in line type? Do you prefer voting in the early morning or after your work day?

Personally, I love standing in line first thing in the morning to place my vote. Something about that feels powerful. However, I was always concerned something would stop me from getting there so several years ago I signed up for vote by mail.

Many elections, I am still in line to drop off my vote by mail ballot but this year I will be out of town on election day so have mailed my ballot in the weekend after I received it.

aishah 10-22-2012 11:43 AM

up until now i've always voted in person on election day, but i recently registered for "permanent advance voter" status due to permanent disability - in my county, you have to be disabled to be able to automatically vote by mail every election (instead of having to re-register to vote by mail every election). so i got my ballot last week and filled it out but i haven't dropped it in the outgoing mail yet :) hopefully i'll do that today or tomorrow.

Rockinonahigh 10-22-2012 12:21 PM

I use to go to the polls but recently I started useing a mail in vote,no mater how I feel health wise or tht weather is I will have voted.

JAGG 10-22-2012 12:27 PM

I think this time around I going to use one of these two methods. Pin the tail on the donkey. Or try the magic 8 ball.

Martina 10-22-2012 12:40 PM

In person though I might regret it. Getting older and arthritic. But I like the ritual. I like being there with my fellow citizens doing our civic duty. I have always loved it.

JAGG 10-22-2012 12:53 PM

Rock paper scissors. Or maybe the time tested trusty chicken wishbone.

Will you be submitting your decision by telepathy?

Sachita 10-22-2012 01:17 PM

Not super busy where I live but regardless- I GO. I don't trust mail in ballots. I barely trust the electronic ballots.

VOTE no matter what!

Tommi 10-22-2012 01:23 PM

Fifteen days to go, ...Mine is filled out and ready.

I too, love standing in line first thing in the morning to place my vote.

I study and fill out my Absentee Voter Ballot at home. Then I am in line when the polls open and drop my vote in the box. Get that little I voted sticker and go to work and nudge those who haven't done so to get off their duffs and go vote.

princessbelle 10-22-2012 01:26 PM

In person here!!!! For roughly 15 years i volunteered on the voting committee in Knoxville. This year i'm not. Although, i do know all those women and men sitting behind those tables and at the voter booths.

It will be interesting to see them again and catch up.

Bully will get a big dose of "Haven't seen you in a while" conversations...

We will vote at my elementary school. It's a very small world around here.

Novelafemme 10-22-2012 01:28 PM

Early mail-in ballot. :)

Greyson 10-22-2012 02:00 PM

I have been voting Absentee Ballot of over 20 years now. When I first started using this method, it was mostly Republicans and older people using absentee. (Although I was not old nor Republican at the time. ) Now, the Democrats and others are using Absentee more and more.

JAGG 10-22-2012 03:47 PM

I go to the polling station for my neighborhood. It's the Community College right by my house. But pin the tail on the donkey would work too.

That's where my magic 8 ball comes in.

Beloved 10-22-2012 03:51 PM

Normally in person on election day, however, this year I went to town hall and voted early. I don't trust the mail.

easygoingfemme 10-22-2012 05:35 PM

In person, with a smile.

Medusa 10-22-2012 05:38 PM

I always vote in person on election day. I love the buzz and the lines of people anxious to cast their ballots.

Hope that everyone here will get out and VOTE!

Hollylane 10-22-2012 05:41 PM

I will be voting via the absentee ballot...I prefer to avoid the conversation at the voting locations...

Cowboi 10-22-2012 05:48 PM

I always vote on my way to work. its early, and not much of a line at 530 am.

Reader 10-22-2012 06:04 PM

I already voted by mail for Bam and Biden. They never have enough parking where I vote and it is ALWAYS raining on Election Day.

That is why I like to vote in person...I enjoy snarling at the Republicans!

easygoingfemme 10-22-2012 06:10 PM

In addition to voting in person, I'll dress as gay as I can. (Damn femme invisibility) and doubt I'll be able to keep myself from skipping/dancing my way through the doors. I kill those republicans with kindness. Hold the door for them, big happy smiles at them, that sort of thing. I think it instills more fear.

pajama 10-22-2012 06:16 PM

I have always gone on the day and stood in the line. But this year I just worry that I won't be able to keep my mouth shut. So TODAY

I walked around the corner form work for early voting. Cast my vote and was back in the office in 10 minutes.

I have to say, this is the worse I've felt after voting. Although I voted for Obama, I still don't hold out much hope for anything good over the next four years. Just not hopeful about any of our politicians anymore...haven't been for years. But meh....I did vote!!!!!

Metro 10-22-2012 06:30 PM

I am sooooo early voting tomorrow (for the first time ever not ON election day) -- would like to think that reports of early voting for POTUS will help undecideds to get on the bandwagon.

Not a bad plan at all. Not an option for NY unless I can meet the following qualifications:

NEW YORK

You'll need to provide a valid excuse. Valid excuses are the same as those for by-mail absentee voting. You may vote early if you are:

unavoidably absent from your county on election day
unable to appear at the polls due to illness or disability
a patient in a Veterans’ Administration Hospital
detained in jail awaiting Grand Jury action or confined in prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony

In my state (IL) Early Voting takes place between 10/22 and 11/3 -- just need to provide a gov't photo ID to do so.

Woohoo!

The Chicago Method, of course.

Vote early, vote often.

I have visited the Windy City and am aware of some of their political history. Your post was a bit of a a dig at their colorful history and I must admit, it made me laugh, "Vote early, vote often."

It's more than colorful. It's a reality. Hell, we even let dead people vote. More than once. Lol

Your statement about needing an excuse has stayed with me and I started wondering about the rules in other states. I had no idea the methods and rules were so diverse. A complete list of authorized voting methods by state can be found here: http://www.ncsl.org/legislatures-elections/elections/absentee-and-early-voting.aspx.
