Women's March on Washington and Sister Events Nationwide

There will be events held all across the country on Saturday January 21 in addition to the Women's March on Washington D.C.

Here is a list if you would like to attend an event in your local area:

http://www.womensmarch.com/sisters/

I am planning to attend the rally in Albuquerque, NM with friends. I am fired up! I would love to hear if anyone is planning to attend one and what your experiences are after you attend if you would like to share.

Here is the mission statement for the one in Albuquerque:

Join us as we gather on January 21 at Civic Plaza for the Women's March on Washington in Albuquerque Rally. This is an inclusive event, open to ANYONE who supports women's rights. Mission Statement: The rally is to show solidarity across the nation and at home for the DC March, which highlights that women's rights are human rights. The mission of the rally is foremost to join the many unique cultural groups across New Mexico in an inclusive dialogue and to become more educated about how we can take positive and peaceful action to exercise our constitutional rights. It's an act to uplift our spirits, to broaden awareness, and proclaim "we will protect each other's civil rights, our communities, our families and our planet."

This is awesome idea! I am going to check and see if they have a rally where I live too. I would love to attend the Wash D.C event but it's probably going to be very expensive :(

I will be in D.C. on the 21st. I booked a room a few miles away because when I first looked in October, all rooms in D.C. were in the high hundreds and thousands. I was lucky to find what I did. I am going down with a few friends the night before. There are a lot of commercial buses leaving from all areas of my state that morning, and seats are hard to come by. I am very excited about going.

I am currently trying to find someone who is selling vagina hats.

I saw a post by someone on Facebook Pantsuit Nation, or A.M.Jo

Pink knitted cap with ears, was cute, but not a sale site.

DapperButch 01-09-2017 09:31 PM

I am going to a march and rally in my state. D.C. isn't doable for me.

BullDog 01-09-2017 11:10 PM

Wow, it's exciting to hear about everyone's plans. I hope everyone comes back and reports on their experiences along with any news leading up to the events.

Yeah, we need those pussy hats. I think I would look real good in one, ha ha.

I'll be reporting on my experience. The lineup of speakers looks really good, and I'm very interested in hearing about ideas for taking effective political action and learning more about what is going on around my state.

Thanks everyone, it feels good to know people will be attending all over the country. We need to stay strong and take effective political action!

easygoingfemme 01-10-2017 06:14 AM

We're planning a caravan from work going to the Seneca Falls sister gathering.

I am going to the one in Portsmouth! I'll post all about it.

kittygrrl 01-10-2017 10:30 AM

Looking at hotels near the White House - the hotel rates for 3 nights is anywhere from $1001-.$4,497. :(

CherylNYC 01-10-2017 11:18 AM

I'm going down to DC for the big march! I could go with my Union. They've chartered two(!) busses and there's still a little room. I could go with friends from the Lesbian Sex Mafia. So many LSM Board members are going that we had to change our regular meeting date. I could go with the Sirens Women's Motorcycle Club. I would have a place to stay, too.

I'm not doing any of that. Instead I decided to drive myself down on Sunday morning in my car, park outside of town and take public transportation in to meet with the Sirens. I'm really skinny and not built for the cold. I'll wear every warm thing I own and probably still end up dangerously frozen at some point during the day. This plan will give me freedom to skedaddle home on my own when I become too cold for safety.

tantalizingfemme 01-10-2017 01:33 PM

For those going to D.C. If you need to use the metro rail to get to the march, hurry up and order online. They said the lines at the machines will be really long. So if you want to order them ahead of time, which I just did, the website is stating that to get your card before the Inauguration on the 20th you need to place your order by Friday, the 13th.

Andrea 01-10-2017 02:01 PM

I am planning to attend the march here in Sacramento. Several friends are going with different groups and I am not sure if I will join up with any or go it alone.

Up in Canada ......

..... there are Women's Marches happening in several major cities including one about an hour from where I live in rural Manitoba (info is on FB). Also, I hooked a Pussy Hat for a friend ..... it doesn't look exactly like a knitted one but it is recognizable. You can see it here http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/foru...pictureid=1238 and here http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/foru...pictureid=1237 !

BullDog 01-10-2017 03:54 PM

Wow, I didn't realize there were marches happening in Canada too. That's so awesome! Thanks for the info sis!

Chancie 01-10-2017 04:58 PM

We're going to a local protest in Western Mass.

Done deal.

Scheduled Lyft ride to my daughters house and then to Pershing Square. No car or stress needed.

Got credit for signing up.

BTW, frustration trying to schedule Uber in advance. They need to work on their app for that!

*Fuck Trump*

Unfortunately, I can't convince her to wear a pussy hat.

As always Shreveport misses out on things like this. Lord knows I tried to find out if anything could be going on but no chance, but I will cheer you all on from afar...Go girls.

There is a sign-making event I will be going to on Thursday with friends to get ready for our Saturday rally. If anyone has any good ideas for signs that I can shamelessly steal let me know. :D

370 ‘Sister Marches’ Planned For Day After Trump’s Inauguration

It’s so much bigger than just the Women’s March on Washington.

by Catherine Pearson

Some 194,000 people have indicated on Facebook they plan to attend the Women’s March on Washington, scheduled for Saturday, the day after President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. And 1,200 tour buses have applied for permits to park at RFK stadium that day ― six times the number that have applied for spots on the day of Trump’s swearing in.

But march spokespeople say it would be a mistake to overlook the 370 smaller “sister marches” that have been planned in every state and on six continents that weekend ― and that are expected at last count to draw nearly 700,000 people.

“This is a global movement,” national sister march spokeswoman Yordanos Eyoel told The Huffington Post.

“This is something that was catalyzed by the organizers of the March on Washington, but it is a call to action to people across this country and around the world who believe in the same mission and principles,” she said.

The Women’s March website is maintaining a running list of the marches being planned, Eyoel said, and is the best resource for people to consult if they are looking for a march near them.

With less than a week to go, nearly 700,000 people have registered to attend via Facebook, Eventbrite and Action Network, she said.

While the marches have been inspired by the Women’s March on Washington, they are being organized by volunteers at the local level and each will have its own programming.

The march in Maui, Hawaii, for example, will begin with a moment of silence and a traditional Hawaiian blessing, a press release explains. The march in Birmingham, Alabama, will begin at the 16th Baptist Church, an icon of the civil rights era that was recently declared a national monument.

The biggest marches outside of Washington are planned in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Boston, Denver, San Francisco, Austin and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Internationally, 55 marches have been planned in cities such as Paris, Sydney and Nairobi.

The aim, Eyoel said, is not to detract from the March on Washington in any way, but to encourage people everywhere to join in what she took pains to describe as a “non-partisan,” not explicitly “anti-Trump” march.

“If you are not able to make it to D.C., I will say that you’re still creating the same kind of change, and you’re making sure your voice is heard,” said Eyoel. “It’s important to do that within the community where you live.”

Actually there is an event in Shreveport:

21 JAN 2017: Women's March - Shreveport/Bossier @ Caddo Parish Courthouse -

ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 21, 2017, THE SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN WILL GATHER PEACEFULLY IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE WOMEN’S MARCH IN WASHINGTON D.C.

The gathering will begin on the north sidewalk of the Caddo Parish Courthouse at 3:00 PM with a reading of the Official Statement of Purpose from the Women’s March in Washington D.C., and will end after participants march around the courthouse as a unified group.

The public is invited to attend this peaceful vigil. Signs are welcome, but sound amplification objects like megaphones and microphones are forbidden by law. This will be a family-friendly, community-inclusive gathering.

My pleasure.

I bet that by both of us going to our respective places, to at least be there, we will feel better.

I am not sure how much marching or for what distance, I will be doing but I did not just have knee surgery either!

Bully, here are some signs I'm creating. I'm not marching, but I am helping to support a couple groups by making and paying for their signs, and donating some moola for lunch and gas.

Sign #1:
SCIENCE IS NOT
A LIBERAL
CONSPIRACY

Sign #2:
MAKE AMERICA
THINK
AGAIN

Sign #3:
WOMEN'S RIGHTS
=
HUMAN RIGHTS

Sign #4:
MAKE AMERICA
KIND
AGAIN

Think about having someone proofread your signs. I'm having mine proofread.

*Anya* 01-17-2017 09:08 AM

Good signs Orema!

Thanks for posting them. I particularly like #1.

I am also going to ask my 12- year-old granddaughter what signs she and her friends are making.

She is 12 going on 25 in terms of brain power, wit, feminist identification and insight.

Any good ones she comes up, I will post, too.

Bully, thank you for starting this thread.

Everyone that is going or participating in any way and posted about it here; inspired me to do something concrete.

It does feel better to make our voices heard.

Yes, our voices are important and good luck to your granddaughter.

Thank you so much Orema! All of your signs are great!

Make America Think Again - love that one so much. And kind again too of course.

I think one of my friends is going with: Trump Is The Swamp. Love it!

Thank you for all the work you are doing to support the events.

Anya, I can't wait to hear what your granddaughter comes up with! It warms my heart so much to hear of 12 year old girls being politically active. They are our present and our future.

Scratch that. Fort Worth is having a march!

We don't want your tiny hands anywhere near our underpants! *practicing*

We're planning on going to the local march here in Northampton.

For anyone wanting to know Seattle's is at Judkins Park 2150 S Norman St 10 am-4 pm Saturday.

I just found a rally scheduled in Hemet, Ca! Hemet is much closer to my home, meaning I won't have to drive the freeways to Riverside or San Diego.

Whoop!

9:30 at the Democratic headquarters on Florida ave.

dark_crystal 01-18-2017 04:07 PM

I will actually be in Mexico that day but there will be a march we can go to in Piedras Negras!

On the way to finding that out, though, I also discovered there will be a march in MARFA, TX

Marfa is a whole day away from where we will be but could you imagine the Marfa march????

I found out that there is a gathering in Santa Ana, Orange County.

It is closer to me but I really want to share this with my daughter and granddaughter.

My favorite car, my VW 1974 Super Beetle, had a bumper sticker across the back of the car and said:

*Sisterhood is Powerful*

It is just as true today as it was then.

Chancie 01-21-2017 07:26 AM

I hope everyone has an awesome safe fabulous day. Please let us know how your day went. ❤

I'll be leaving soon...Kasey is going to drop me off due to lack of parking and walk back to meet me.
