Good question, DB. Good question, indeed :-)

Brilliant!
Perhaps the US will follow (in about 10 years - no doubt).

Thanks SoNotHer!

Gentle Tiger 09-17-2011 03:15 PM

Wonder if I could find a software testing position in Australia.

Tawse 09-17-2011 03:20 PM

Gillian and I were talking about the US versus uhm well just about the rest of the world.. And we came to the conclusion that the US is a pretty damn conservative / traditional country in most aspects.

I totally had this same reaction: "Why is the U.S. not cool like this?"

I blame the Puritans and the Secret

I think your message got cut off, Nat, but I like the gist of it, and how cool is it that you've embedded Lorca in your signature file. Wow. :-)

Thanks SoNotHer. :) I'm glad you liked the Lorca!

I should have added a period at the end, but I'll redo with youtubes. :)

I blame the Puritans

and the Secret.

:)

Very cool, indeed. And led to a good convo with my mum, actually, who is becoming really supportive of this happening in Canada, too. Somehow I won't be holding my breath with Mr. Harper in office.

Yes you could actually. They may need technical people too you should look into it.

SoNotHer 09-19-2011 11:49 PM

Nat - you have a talent for finding funny videos. That's one of the best skits I've seen on the Puritans, and the other is excellent, too.

Maybe we should all get on boat (though not a rickety, leaky one) for Australia. :-)

...okay, I just wanted to say, that as an Aussie, living in the 'cool place' (lol), I think we are actually a pretty conservative country. Just lately, there have been a few bright lights such as this, and the X-Factor. I have to say, that we got our first Butch Femme group in Melbourne just 6 years ago, and here we happen to think America is really progressive! I think there have been positive changes recently for sure....
oh, and then there is the case of openly gay politician Penny Wong, who swung from last year speaking out against (yes, against) gay marriage, to this year supporting it--a good thing. Her and her partner recently had a baby and it was widely publicized in the papers here. Positive journalism around such events is most definately a recent thing, and I believe has something to do with our relatively recent Labor government.

Having said that, these things don't happen by accident or by governments feeling benevolent, there are certainly some very active queers behind the scenes.

SoNotHer 09-20-2011 07:13 AM

Well said, Rivek. I applaud those who made it happen. I have a very dear friend near Melbourne, and I know this kind of progress has come through struggle and consciousness raising.

As another Aussie I have to agree with Rivkeh. Australia is well behind on the marriage front but hopefully when it is legal it will be Australia wide .... as opposed to the USA http://p.twimg.com/AbF9R_GCQAEe_BB.jpg:large

SoNotHer 10-10-2011 11:32 PM

That's good stuff, Midnight. Funny if sadly so. Thanks for the link.
