Tues April 27 Sarah Sarai & Adrienne Baldassano at Women’s & Trans’ Poetry Jam -Bluestockings
Women’s & Trans’ Poetry Jam & Open Mike

Tuesday April 27th 7PM – 9PM

Feature Writers: Sarah Sarai & Adrienne Baldassano

Sarah Sarai’s poems are charged with the terrible presence of the now and the dangerous fact of words. This is poetry as it should be. Scary, strange, generous, intensely in a physical world while illuminating an unimaginable spiritual world. This is writing that sings. The song it sings is the song of our hearts.

Adrienne Baldassano has, all too often, found hirself caught between male and female. Through hir poetry, ze seeks to find and define a space for all those who do not fit into binary oppositions, be it male/female, up/down, or past/future.

We need Marshals

You can help lead the New York City LGBT Pride March. Be a marshal and walk with the motorcycles that lead the march down 5th Avenue on Sunday, April 27th.

The Sirens Women’s Motorcycle Club has been leading the motorcycles at the front of the New York City LGBT Pride March every year since 1987. We’re expecting a record number of motorcycles from all over the country this year so we will need fifteen to twenty marshals to make it all work.

Please arrive at 41st St. between 5th and Madison Avenues by 10:30 A.M.

You may be called upon to:
*Walk along with the motorcycles
*Keep viewers out of the path of the bikes
*Assist anyone whose bike stalls
*Pass out water from the support van to thirsty bikers
*Assist communication from the front of the march to the back of the bikes
*Take turns carrying the Sirens banner
*Join the festivities at our end-of-march celebration

To volunteer please email the Sirens at SirensNYC@hotmail.com and put 'Pride Marshal' in the subject line.

From 11 am until 6 pm on Saturday, June 12th the Brooklyn Pride Festival is held at the southwest corner of Prospect Park, at Bartel Pritchard Square. The festival includes a street fair with community businesses and organizations, food and shopping, a play area for kids and families, and a main stage with live music, comedy, dance, and other performers. If you're arriving by Subway, take the F train to the 15th Street/Prospect Park stop.

The Brooklyn Gay Pride Parade takes place following the festival, at 7:30 pm. It begins at 14th Street and 5th Avenue, and then continues north along 5th to Union Street, ending at 9 pm.

NYC Dyke march is this Saturday June 26. http://www.dykemarchnyc.org

Lesbian Sex Mafia will be represented - if you want to meet up with us we'll be at the Lion on the left in front of the library. We'll be wearing lsm t-shirts and we have a banner so you should be able to spot us. March starts at 5pm, but I'll be at the lion by around 4:30.

About the March:
The Dyke March is a protest march, not a parade -- we don't ask for a permit, because we have the right to protest. We recognize that we must organize amongst ourselves to fight for our rights, our safety, and for visibility. Thousands of dykes take over the streets every year in celebration of LBTQ women and to protest against ongoing discrimination, harassment, and anti-LBTQ violence in schools, on the job, in our families, and on the streets.

Come join us!

cinderella 06-23-2010 02:16 PM

Wish I could - I'd be there like a shot!! Hope it all goes well.

Linus 06-25-2010 02:53 PM

Welp. I'm gonna go to the Pride March on Sunday (with an empty camera) and I haven't decided on tomorrow but it does sound like it's gonna be a hot weekend.

Anyone else going? Want to meet up at a corner/intersection?
