The Gage for a Friday Fish Fry sometime....

The people of the Loop have been waiting. They’ve been waiting for an alternative to Bennigan’s or for a liquor list that goes beyond Old Crow and Miller draft. Now, thanks to Billy Lawless, the wait is over. The Ireland native and his father (same name, but call him William) ventured far from their neighborhood pubs the Irish Oak and the Grafton to open a big-deal spot on a big-deal strip of Chicago. And they did it right.

Drinks and food sport downtown prices, so plan on spending some loot and don’t look back. Like sweet ’tinis? The signature Gage Cocktail— pear Grey Goose, Aperol, clove-infused apple juice with a splash of cranberry and lime— is your drink. Are you a brown liquor sipper? The whiskey list is lengthy and expertly selected. The beer list goes beyond the basics and wines are accompanied by clever, straightforward descriptions.

Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade Mar 12, 2022

After the Chicago River is dyed a murky shade of green, the city's big St. Patrick's Day celebration moves to Grant Park for a parade on Columbus Drive. You'll see bagpipes, drum corps, Irish dancers and politicians at this festive procession (celebrating its 67th year as well as Chicago's essential workers), which is among the largest events of its kind in the country. Organizers haven't yet announced a kick-off time or route for this year's parade—the first in the city since 2019—but it typically marches north from Balbo Drive to Monroe Street, with a viewing stand situated in front of Buckingham Fountain.

Museum of Science and Industry | Chicago 5700 S Lake Shore Dr March 5th

The Chicago Beer Festival, which normally takes over the Field Museum for a night in March, isn't happening until October this year—but that doesn't mean you're out of opportunities to sample brews in a museum until then. Instead, grab tickets to Brewsology Beer Fest at the Museum of Science and Industry, where dozens of breweries and cideries (Maplewood, Dovetail, Bells and Founders among them) will offer samples of their offerings. Wander around with a beer in hand, chat with brewery reps and feel free to check out the museum's exhibits.

Chicago Humanities Festival presents....

Saturday, May 7, 2022 7:30 pm 725 W Roosevelt Rd. Chicago

John Waters (legendary filmmaker of the cult classic Pink Flamingos and blockbuster Hairspray, and author of Carsick and Mr. Know-It-All) has turned his brilliant mind to fiction: specifically his first novel and what he calls the “feel bad romance.” In Liarmouth, Waters employs his trademark combination of hilarity and obscenity, weaving a tangled tale of sex, crime, and family dysfunction, with main character Marsha Sprinkle (scammer, suitcase thief, master of disguise) at the helm. At CHF, Waters share his secrets for writing well in a transgressive way.

“Art and Race Matters: The Career of Robert Colescott” 78 E Washington St
Chicago

The Chicago Cultural Center hosts the first comprehensive retrospective of Robert Colescott, a 20th century American painter whose incisive, large-scale work took aim at racial inequities in America—among other social ills—with humor and wit. The exhibition examines Colescott's work throughout the decades, moving through the artist's stylistic evolutions from riffs on the Bay Area Figuration of the '50s and '60s to his graphic style of the '70s and beyond, as well as his role in bolstering Black representation in art.
