New Year's Day Traditions
What are your New Year's Day Traditions?
|
Every year my fiancee and I make a good luck vase for good luck (inspired by kadomatsu) on New Years eve with conifer tree branches and decorate it. Then we make a wish and tie it on the sprigs with ribbon or write our wishes on tags to hang :)

Purging: I'm pretty good at purging, but have decided to make a point of also doing it for the new year. So this week I gave away some paper books, plants, pots for plants. Had someone take some broken appliances and a broken exercise bike to the dump. Food; For dinner I'll eat blackeyed peas and collard greens for good luck and prosperity in this new year. What about you, Chad? Are you doing anything special to bring in the new year? |

Happy New Year Orema!
I like your family's traditions. What time is dinner? My family rested on New Year's Day. We always watch the Rose Parade followed by the football game. We eat ham, black eyed peas, and cabbage. My familiy's New Years Day has always been a day for family and friends. :cowboy: Chad Quote:

Sounds like a wonderful way to start the year, Chad; doing things you like with those you love. Lucky you :) I like your traditions, too.
Dinner is early today—around 3, but I'd gladly adjust it for someone as kind as you. :) Hope you enjoy the parade and game, and a happy new years to you, too! Quote:

Orema,
You are so sweet thank you. I think you know me well enough to know that I will finish this happy day with a classic 30's or 40's film. Chad Quote:

Gotta eat New Years Day food: greens, black eyed peas and ham. Green for bucks and black eyed peas for pennies and ham to enrich both of them. The more you eat, the better your year is supposed to be.
Why do this? |
full english
always have at some point during the first weekend have a full english breakfast.
then onto getting into a more healthier lifestyle again. |
Jools66,
What kind of food is a part of a full English breakfast? Chad Quote:

I like the way you did new years day, my family did something like that way back in the day. I used to have friends over for dinner then we would head out to the casino to lose money even win some once in a while. The casino and the city would put on a huge fire works display that took about an hour. Thin we would go back to my place to chill or sleep it off if they had to much happy hour. Now most everyone has either passed on or moved so I just enjoy a nice meal with family then keep the rest a nice peaceful day, diffrent but good just the same. |

I normally eat black eyed peas, collards with a ham bone, and cornbread on New Year's day and that was my plan this year.
Today though, I met a friend of mine at the gym for a work out and then we went out for a late lunch where I had grilled salmon, sauteed spinach, sauteed zucchini & yellow squash with onions, wild rice & unsweetened tea. Now I am too full to eat anything else for the remainder of the day. |

1. I have been doing the cleaning as well, it just feels good to start clean doesn't it?
2. Eat Thai food. It's vibrant, colorful, and full of flavor; I would like my life this year to reflect THAT. 3. I second the notion for the dream board, or luck vase: some way of clarifying intent for the coming year. I wanted to do a dream board for Solstice, but got caught up having my carpets cleaned. So thanks for the reminders, it's time for that. 4. Dreamboard inspiration "courting luck". https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...bada16fa95.jpg |
