Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Today, as I was getting ready for my morning ritual of practicing meditation, I came across the tiny little scroll of paper with my favorite set of thoughts to think upon (Zen):

Before Enlightenment
I chopped wood and carried water.

After Enlightenment
I chopped wood and carried water.

The wind howls
The sun sets
The earth begins to sleep
Alone am i.

Let all go
Clear my mind
Embrace my death
Let it fill me

Simple tears
Within me glow
Drift away
Peace at last

The wind howls
Eyes close
I begin to sleep
Alone am i.

art's plume is a balsam, a weapon, and a guide enlightening the spirit of men

indeed - it is the world of truth living in between the flickerings of visions and the folds of the imagination

indeed - in between the flickerings of visions, the folds of the imagination, and the eyes of the impossible

winged songs in rapture float aboard a vessel of hopes

art's plume is a balsam, a weapon, and a guide enlightening the spirit of men

belle, this is entirely beautiful...
Thank you for sharing, Alone am I.

I felt a particular peaceful tension, if you will, while reading this;
yet I could identify with this particular arrangement
of thought: as if I could hear the wind's voice as the
Earth climaxed into its cycle of sleep; the invitation to
let go, yet be aware that's it okay to let go - even if I am alone.

I'm glad you were able to provide a translation for this meditation,
tonaderspeisung . . .

I want to say that while listening to her sing, I found myself intently listening (in an visual-audio like way) to the melody of the orchestral arrangment; as if simultaneously weaving and schematically arranging a way for me to peer inbetween-the-scenes of ... "flickerings of visions, folds of imagination and the eyes of the impossible" for "winged songs in rapture" that "float aboard a vessel of hopes" because, indeed, "art's plume is a balsam, a weapon, and a guide enlightening the spirit...".

My peaceful place today was when I roasted chicken and mashed some Idaho spuds for my son Eddie and I to have for supper. I dressed the chicken down a ginger-garlic-cracked pepper-honey rub, then roasted it today. I saved the drippings... so I could make a homemade 'medicine' to soothe my throat.

My grandmother used to make things of this nature and she taught me how to make a few natural remedies, when I was much younger. This particular 'medicine' is a mixture of the drippings from the chicken, a single clove from an bulb of Elephant Garlic, half an onion and half of a lemon (rind, included). I don't exactly mince the garlic, onion or lemon, but I do slice them up fairly evenly in small proportions. But with the lemon, I do not take the rind off because even the rind of the lemon adds toward the total essence of this particular healing potion. It not only soothes a person's throat but it acts as an natural sedative too.

Spending time in the kitchen is incredibly healing to me and allows me to be creative and soothes me in peaceful ways.

I hope everyone's day was blessed with peacefulness.

Don't know about the rest of you, but my heart was touched by the posts left by princessbelle and tonaderspeisung....

I'm sitting here, almost ready for work today, watching torrents of rainfall and my neighbor's chimney, across the street... I love to watch the smoke spiraling toward the heavens. :stillheart:

I came across a quote by Jimi Hendrix this morning and thought I'd leave his thoughts this morning and a video of him performing "Red House" .... I remember hearing that song in the movie City of Angels, while Meg Ryan is performing surgery and she's listening to the blues (JH).

When the power of love overcomes the love of power,
the world will know peace.

I keep a personal archive of Koans and Koan-worthy quotes for times I set aside to practice peaceful ways,
like today and tomorrow: my weekend of Iron Flute meditation (The Sound of One Hand).
The greatest achievement is selflessness.

The greatest worth is self-mastery.

The greatest quality is seeking to serve others.

The greatest precept is continual awareness.

The greatest medicine is the emptiness of everything.

The greatest action is not conforming with the worlds ways.

The greatest magic is transmuting the passions.

The greatest generosity is non-attachment.

The greatest goodness is a peaceful mind.

The greatest patience is humility.

The greatest effort is not concerned with results.

The greatest meditation is a mind that lets go.

The greatest wisdom is seeing through appearances.

~ Atisha

It's not always an easy thing to do, because I think it's important to pay attention to things that are not always easy to hear or see or to say or be said. Finding the photo of the Geisha girls above inspires me to be more cognizant of what I think about, what I hear and say and do.

Years ago, right after I was in a serious car crash, I remember going out to a lake, high up in the mountains - with my first partner - and it brought peace to me: Just to be in a boat, rowing aimlessly around the lake, breathing in all the natural beauty and letting some form of peace wash over me, even when I was still recovering from my injuries and high as a kite on pain killers.

Floating effortlessly in a boat on water really does wonders for the soul.
