This is the current theme:

Lets try something a little different. I purpose post shooting work...something that you shot then played with on editing software.

And you're welcome to suggest a new theme at any time.

To post photos you need to first upload your work in to an image hosting site like picassa or photobucket or flickr or snapfish or whatever you personally prefer.

Once the photos you want to post are hosted there you can copy the IMG code.

Click the "photo" icon in the toolbar above (the yellow square that looks like a landscape picture), paste your IMG code into that box. And post.

Et Voila!

Congrats on your sale Ashton!

Someone on this very site bought some greetings cards from me. How awesome is that!

The sale was a nice one and i would like to put that revenue towards some Editing software.

i plan to spend the winter months priming up my photo biz in a new direction.

i want to shoot people and hopefully people and pets. i love pet photography!

i have a lot to learn.

Lighting and photo editing software. i don't have any.

i don't know where to start and i really want to do this right, having my confidence where it needs to be.

i won't be using a studio so outside shots will be my main mode, but even outside requires lighting in some way at times. i have no idea how i want to do this but it's coming together.

i am not going to get Photoshop at the $500 price tag. i don't want to spend more time editing than i do shooting. i want to get it right in the camera with some effects and light editing. Also i am color blind and when i have edited in the past i was told it was too much, because i don't see color like everyone else it's hard to judge, so effects and blemish control mostly.

Someone suggested Elements. Any thoughts?

Ashton!?!?!?!??!?!?!
Anyone?
:help:

For basic editing elements is just fine. I don't know if, like it's big bro/sis PS, you can build actions to make the process of doing all the basic editing we all do to digital pictures, easily and quickly.

I tried to copy the copy of the very old photoshop version we have here in the house for when I send Aperture back to ya but it didn't work.

I dunno if anyone would know what I was doing wrong.

dixie 11-05-2012 10:01 AM

I used Elements for quite some time, and it worked for my needs. I did however break down and purchase Photoshop CS6 Extended, simply because I find it easier to use (for me). I'm also a big fan of the Nik software. I run Viveza 2, HDR Efex Pro 2, and Color Efex Pro 4.

I guess being a Leo I have a flare for the dramatic, therefore there is no such thing to me as "too much" on my edits...lol I tend to go for overly enhanced, dramatic, whimsical, color crazed edits. I reserve "natural" for more of the baby and toddler shoots. Even my wedding shots are a bit dramatic. Apparently it works though, because I have more bookings at this point than I would have imagined. :seeingstars:

The biggest problem for me now, is feeling slightly out of place. I've been shooting mostly people these days. Anyone who knows me knows that nature is my passion when shooting. You can tell by my people shots that my heart isn't as into it, even though I still love it. I miss my birds, my furries, my creepy-crawlies. I have GOT to figure out a way to make enough income shooting primarily nature. So far, not much luck. Just the odd print here and there. I just don't really know how to go about approaching the right areas for that specific clientele. (Whether it be magazines, certain stock sites, even post cards, at this point.)

I am, however, super excited that these two are being sold to a local physician for her office, as very large metal prints. She fell in love with them. :)

Andddddd I once again forgot to resize before posting. Grrrrrrrrrrr lol

girl_dee 11-05-2012 10:33 AM

lol it's ok i appreciate your help! Bigger is good so i can see them!

i simply cannot justify the cost of PS and the learning curve is way too intimidating for me. i'm pretty techy but for my photography i want to keep as much of it as basic as possible. i do love some of the effects i've seen and i have no idea how to get those.

i feel when it comes to editing, go small or go big. i love the dramatic effect but for me, i want to keep it as much like what i visualized when i took the shot as possible. i like digital art, and it is an art.

Dixie, i host my pictures on Fine Art America. It's 30 bucks (i think) per year. It's a great place to host stock photos and display your work. Not sure if you've ever heard of it. i've sold a few things from there, definitely enough to pay for the hosting. i was on SmugMug but i found it too expensive and the members were a bit caustic for my taste.

if i could make money at nature shots, i'd probably stay there forever. The truth is sunsets are a dime a dozen. The trick is to get something different and that stands out. i want to make money at this and feel i have to move on to making that happen.

i would love the basic PS program, just to try it. i've done the 30 day trial and didn't want to get to used to it.

i have this great big fear that i am going to be spending too much time editing because i am so anal. Not having PS i feel, pushes me to get the shot in the camera.

But i know for Portrait work i need an editing program.

Hey kiddo_dee... hee hee I funny guy...what you don't get it...girl_dee...kiddo_dee...well I thought it was funny!!

A N Y W A Y!!!

Afraid I'm not much help in this department. I use online free editing software Picmonkey and what used to be picnik and now is just Google editing on Google+. I do have a a copy of Paintshop Pro Photo2X that a got with my new laptop 3 yrs ago, but don't use it too much except for resizing images to 300 DPI and printing sizes. Unfortunately neither picnik or picmonkey do that. I don't do much more with it because I don't really understand how to use it. I have played around with it and can do basic stuff but really most all the stuff I want to do to images I can do in the online stuff. & the other takes up a lot of room on the computer. I will see if I can copy Paintshop and send a copy to you and you can see if it works for you. You might want to check but I know you can get some of the older Photoshops, Elements, Paintshops at a discount price if you look around. IMHO you don't need the latest and greatest to get the job done the others worked great for all those years its just the new things they add and since your wanting to keep your work basic any of the earlier versions are more then enough.

Hey folks lets get this show back on the road... New theme

What my friend refers to as "screwing up in reverse"... where you were trying to do one thing and something else happened instead and you ended up with a cool shot

Ok this is a very blurry copy but i was out shooting the moon like i always do and a raven took off and i didn't realize what i had until i loaded the shots.

it made the paper and is one of my favorites.
