What Was Your First Concert?
I was reminiscing with some clients today and we got to talking about our very first concerts. I thought it would be fun to take a walk down memory lane and provoke a bit of nostalgia here on BFP. So what was your first concert?
Mine: Journey's 1979 Evolution Tour. I was 16 years old and thought I had died and gone to heaven. It is still on my top three list of best concerts ever attended. |
The first one (that changed my life; I don't count the ones that don't *s) was Sweet Honey in the Rock.
It was the day of Earth Hour (one hour of darkness for global warming) and to honor that, without having to change their concert set, they did a full song in complete darkness, except for their sign language interpreter who was lit in a single spotlight. It was truly one of the most moving experiences of my entire life. |
#1 Black Sabbath with Ted Nugent opening at Madison Square Garden.
So the first thing i ever heard at a concert was Ted Nugent yelling - "If you motherfuckers want to be fucking mellow, get the fuck out of here!" #2 was Patti Smith (horses tour) with papa john creach opening on fiddle. (both 1976 i believe) |
Not entirely sure ... there may have been a couple before then but I attended an Alice Cooper concert. Thinking around 1972 ...
turasultana, I envy you! Black Sabbath would have done it for me in a big way. I have all their CDs from back in the 70s and still love listening to them. All their vinyls were too scratched to salvage. |
James Taylor 1973
|
Creedance Clearwater Revival. My cousin took me when I was still in high school. 1971 or 72.

first concert
sean cassidy 1978
i was not allowed to go to rock shows until i was in college i saw heart and cougar in evansville in 82 that rocked |
I went to all kinds of country/gospel concerts with my family when I was growing up, but I didn't consider those to count. It only counted when I went to my first concert on my own...lol ;)
Summer Sanitarium Tour 2000 System of a Down Powerman 5000 Korn Kid Rock Metallica It was a hot as hades day standing in the infield of the Rockingham Speedway all morning/afternoon/night watching this awesome bunch of musicians. Got there at 5am and left the following 3am. I slammed and got slammed in the mosh pits. I almost got struck by lightning while standing atop the giant METALLICA tower. I was bashed in the head by empty AND full beer bottles. I passed out from the heat. I had folks pouring $6 bottles of water over my head to bring me back to consciousness. I fought my way off an EMS stretcher to get back to my place by the stage. I was front and center against the rail for most of the acts, and got to actually talk to most of the bands. (Kid Rock was the only asshole that day...) I was soaked to the bone, first with sweat then with blood then with rain. It was the most fun I've had in my life...LOL |
Bette Midler, 1974
|
Stevie Ray Vaughn...spring break...out on the island....I was 16 and never the same again...lol...
|
I belive it was New Order..
|
Duran Duran, 1984. I was 12.
|
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Jacksonville, FL in the early 70's
|
Tori Amos (W/Alanis) Sept 11, 1999 Chicago/Tinley Park, IL
I was 18 I still like to believe she sang Blood Roses because I asked her to. |
Elvis Presly at the Louisiana hayride,he was so young and new then and had a spot in the show,I think it was about 1964 ot 65.

Stevie Ray Vaughn was the BEST concert I have ever seen to this day!!!! |
The Osmond Brothers in the summer of 1971 (the summer between 6th & 7th grades). They were also my second concert the following summer and I think that was the same summer I saw David Cassidy.
|
the grateful dead, early 80's
an experience i still talk about today |
It was Rush......Omaha 1988 lmfao it was interesting....
|
The first official one? I think it was probably a Willie Nelson picnic in the 70's.
