MUSIC FESTIVALS
Hello to all the Audiophiles!
So does anyone on here go to the music festivals? Planning on going to any this year? Been to any in the past you would really recommend? This isn't just gay/women oriented, these are for ALL types of music festivals. I'll start it off: I've been to the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival several years, Bonnaroo a couple of years, and Voodoo last year. This year me and The Boy will be going to The Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores AL in mid-May; Wakarusa Music Festival in Ozark AR in early-June (Medusa can we stop and visit when we pass through LR?); Lollapalooza in Chicago IL in early-August; and Voodoo Music Festival in N'awlins on Halloween weekend. I have found this is a neat thing that The Boy and I really have in common. It's a great way to see ALOT of artists for not alot of money. Plus it's one of the most entertaining people watching venues you could ever ask for. So..... Anyone else going to some Festivals this year? Have questions about some Festivals? A |
I've been to a couple local music festivals with local talent. You're right, they are a great people watching event. Here's a couple links that list festivals here and there.

Oooooh I would love to make a bluegrass festival, just pretty sure it would be without The Boy. Probably wouldn't hear much over his whining at having to be there. LOL

Lol, tell him they are fun and some of those people do know how to get down with their instruments. I saw a band in 2009 in Maggie Valley at the Eagle Entertainment venue they have there, small, 300 seats max, front row seats $25. It was Carrie Hassler and Hard Rain, awesome band, they have several cd's out now, I've got em all I think. I'm hoping they'll be back around soon, they are out of Pikeville, Tennessee. They give one heck of a show.
Here's a couple tunes by them. |
i used to go to a fair number although i am not a huge fan. i don't like the crowds, and seeing an artist you love perform a shorter set feels like a tease. But i do plan to get to hardly strictly bluegrass one of these days here in the bay area.
i have been to a lot of bluegrass festivals. i also recommend them with one caveat. They tend to be -- or used to be -- white events. A person of color attending can attract attention. But these were rural festivals. That may not be true of bigger ones. |
the very first festival i attended was a champagne jam... in atlanta in 78 i think.. the last was about a year ago in a womyns only space in dahlonega...
in the middle of those time i have had a few wild weekends at fests... sheez... that may or may not be an understatement... like was stated up there these might be the finest avenues for ppl watching i have experienced... the blue grass fests i have attended are sadly the exception to this rule... all is well until my dykedom shows... which doesnt take long sometimes... i pass mostly... but some of these country folks are sharper than you think... and... basically... im female... its gonna get me into trouble one day...i tend to let myself be free when i am anywhere... maybe not the smartest move in bum f*k georgia... but... i figure they can kiss my a$$ while they are chasing me with their burning cross... i am contemplating bonnaroo this year... but the thought of that long in the rough appeals to me less and less... imma old biutch! |
This is a very, VERY big deal around here. People come from all over the country. GRASSROOTS

Power to the Peaceful in SF 9-11
Or the weekend closest to 9-11.
Been very spoiled to be able to attend this free event for the past several years. This year I will not be in town and am seriously considering coming back just for it. http://www.powertothepeaceful.org/ |

And yes Key there are several really good ones on the west coast, but again, a little to far for me, but please post them here. I realize not everyone is lucky enough to live in the south. LOL Thanks everybody for the posts. A |
So I found a cool venue that was created just for the music fetival. Spirit of the Suwannee. I think me and The Boy will be going to these two. Let me know if anyone else decides to go, we could meet up.
Bear Creek Music Festival in November. Blackwater Music Festival in September. A |
