Elizabeth Taylor has died :(

Legendary film actress Elizabeth Taylor has died. She was 79.

Her son, Michael Wilding, tells ET: "My Mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love. Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world. Her remarkable body of work in film, her ongoing success as a businesswoman, and her brave and relentless advocacy in the fight against HIV/AIDS, all make us all incredibly proud of what she accomplished. We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts."

Taylor was hospitalized six weeks ago with congestive heart failure.

A private family funeral later this week. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (elizabethtayloraidsfoundation.org). People wanting to send personal messages can log onto http://www.facebook.com/pages/Elizabeth-Taylor-Tribute .

It is respectfully asked that the public allow the family privacy at this difficult time. Details of a memorial service will be announced at a later date.

We have been so fortunate to have had this divine creature among us. I am so sorry she had to leave us now.

She was such a wonderful humanitarian.

One of her famous lines outside of film regarding helping with Aids Foundation: "I call upon you to draw from the depths of your being — to prove that we are a human race, to prove that our love outweighs our need to hate, that our compassion is more compelling than our need to blame." Yahoo.com

You were an amazing woman and taught us all about beauty and grace.

RIP Elizabeth Taylor

Have been flooded by several of her movies I've watched through the years

"Suddenly last Summer", "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf", "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", "Butterrfield 8" and there are more that people here will remember.

She was a beautiful woman, and I remember that she was one of the first actors to stand-up for AIDS fund-raising. Passionate life.

Vaya con Dios, Elizabeth.

Today was one of those days when the world stopped for a moment. It was January 1985 that had the honor and privilege of meeting her. Her wit and warmest was hypnotic. Her beauty was intimidating. Those gorgeous violet eyes pieced my soul. Truly a remarkable woman. So long, Elizabeth, with all my love and devotion.

One of the most beautiful women in history has died. I have been in awe of her since I was a child. She used her talent and influence for the good , and if she was your friend, she stood by you no matter what.

Have a safe trip, Miss Elizabeth. Hope I'm around when you get your next ride.

Sad Smooches,
Keri

Beauty was her mantle - in infancy, childhood, as a teenager, woman, and senior citizen - a unique soul that graced our planet, and gave us an amazing creature of astonishing beauty and grace.

From a bit part in the classic Jane Eyre of the 40's, to her last film, she lived a life of privalage and enchantment. She lived life to the fullest, tho with a heart and body that had known great pain and suffering.

She lost many loved ones - from husband Mike Todd, to her great lifelong friends Montgomery Cliff and Rock Hudson. Thru all her tribulations, she remained stoic and brave, and always faced the world with a smile on that incredibly beautiful face. A true star of classic Hollywood; a humanitarian with boundless love to fight in the face adversity, when everyone told her not to get involved, she ignored the possible stigma associated with HIV/AIDS, and fought constantly to educate, and bring compassion to the those afflicted with it.

We shall miss you Liz. More then you can imagine. May you rest in eternal peace.

Such a sad loss. RIP Elizabeth Taylor. Your name has been written in stone to be remembered for many many years to come.

Gráinne 03-23-2011 03:34 PM

She also happened to be a great ally of the gay community, after Rock Hudson died of AIDS.

I'll miss her commercials for White Diamonds. Years ago, I read her book "Elizabeth Takes Off" about her weight struggles, and she was a very open and honest person. She will be missed.

ETA: TCM will be showing her films on April 10 in tribute.
