What is the definition for Diesel Dyke?

My exgirlfriend says she prefers diesel dykes to butches, which I am. She didn't want to go into detail, so I am putting it out there. How masculane is a diesel Dyke and what is the difference between a diesel dyke and a butch?

No idea what that means to her, anything I said would be speculation.

Additionally, welcome to the Planet, where all varieties are welcome.

Welcome to the Planet. I concur. Have a conversation with your girlfriend about how she believes Diesel Dyke differs from Butch. Then I would ask, "Why."

Really your identity is for you to say and figure it out. There are many threads on this site that discusses gender. Again, welcome and have some fun too.

I am in agreeance with everyone else who has posted ask your ex what her definition is and take it from there but I found this on about.com just for the hell of it.

to me the link I posted is stereotypical

Maybe she's very literal and has a thing for truckers.

As mentioned, there's no way for us to be able to give you a definite answer, as all defintions, especially of identity, are subjective.

:welcome: to the Planet, no matter how you got here!

Could be Lesbian who drives diesel engine car?

There is no way to know exactly except from her, and apparently she does nto want to tell you, or she already would have.

I would take it on the chin and get out there and meet someone who likes you for you.

I think it's a physical type: A butch can be of any proportions, but a diesel dyke is big and powerful body-wise.

Unleaded Dyke here, unless I am in the Beast. Then I am High Test! ( Super Unleaded for those not familiar with the old school terms "Regular or High Test"

I would have to follow suit with other suggestions here regarding asking her what she means, and if your ex- gf prefers a different kind of butch then you may be better off with that relationship being done. You should be "enough" for your partner. Hopefully, you don't feel the need to change who you are to please her ( or anyone else). There are many ways to express yourself and seems like each one has a different name or qualifier these days! Be you and the right match for you will appear one day! Good luck!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the site!!!

Agrees with everyone here. What your identity means to you, personally, is what is most important.

There are so many different IDs around and they may mean different things to different peeps.

Even with that, some people evolve into others IDs over time or a combination thereof.

Many great readings here on these very topics.

Enjoy and have fun!!!!!

Maybe that's how her new girlfriend identifies.

The_Lady_Snow 08-23-2011 10:14 AM

Ex's can be complicated if we allow it:|

Maybe she's into a look and that's what rock n rolls her desire?

Anyway it's good to see you here!!!

Quintease 08-23-2011 10:15 AM

When I was but a baby dyke I thought diesel dyke = mechanic.

Except loads of my friends turned out to be mechanics and they weren't the least bit butch.

It means living transgendered with a big strength and totally unafraid to walk around with a rack never wanted

I would guess not all "diesel dykes" are transgendered. Just a thought.

That's all i could come up with, either!

I think the label of diesel dyke depends on the person not what some definition says

Starbuck 08-24-2011 08:12 PM

Just off the top of my head, perhaps she wanted you to me more manly or aggressive in nature or to ride a motorcycle as your mode of transportation. Now I ride a motorcycle but that doesn't make me diesel dyke, it's just a mode of transportation I've chosen...who knows. It's just her definition. As others have said, don't go changing who you are to please someone, it'll only make YOU unhappy!

WolfyOne 08-24-2011 08:51 PM

Here's what I found when I did a search

diesel (dyke)
Definition
noun

a lesbian who behaves aggressively and/or has a rough masculine appearance or heavy build. The word, which is pejorative and generally used by men, carries overtones of engineers, engines, trucks and other butch associations and perhaps also refers to the overalls, dungarees, etc. worn by some lesbians. The term originated in the USA but was heard in Britain in the 1980s as a pejorative term and also as a simple descriptive phrase used by lesbians themselves.

Daywalker 08-24-2011 09:13 PM

I don't think that there is a comparison of Masculine that can nor should
be made between Butch and Diesel Dyke. It's an Individual
'setting' of Charisma and energy, etc...not a competition.
:fastdraq:

If she wanted you to feel like that,
then shame on her.

TIMBERWOLF 08-24-2011 09:21 PM

Well how old is she? Back in my younger Butch days<1973 The big tough, hard drinking, beat you up in a heart beat were called Diesel Dykes and they usually had a knife in the pocket to back it up. I haven't heard that phase in like 40 yrs. They also HATED men with a passion or the ones I knew did.
