Song Suggestions!?!?

I have registered to audition for "The Voice" in Memphis next month, and wanted to solicit suggestions on what would be good songs to sing for an audition.
I can sing several different styles and genres so nothing is too "out there"!
:ohm:
What would get your attention if I had 5 minutes or less to impress you with my voice alone?????????????
:|

:goodscore:

so, talk amongst yourselves.............

What is your vocal range? I think that has a bit to do with what song you should pick. For instance I would not suggest a song that has to be done in falsetto for your voice. Unless you have one hellofa set of pipes.

What kind of music do You like?

ForeverBlue 06-10-2012 07:45 PM

Congrats for even signing up! I am thinking of a song by BREAD cant think of the name of it off hand, goes Id give up my life, my heart, my home, just to have you,,,,,Im sure someone knows the name right away,,,its the type of song you could make sound like your own!

Corkey 06-10-2012 07:48 PM

Some good suggestions........
i think that Bread song is "just to have you, once again" or something like that.
i am mostly a tenor, some baritone. i have falsetto, i would like to use it at the end of a song, You know the Ramp up to the cliamax. etc.
Don't want anything to Showtuney......... but i do those pretty well.....
i was considering this one...
but put my lil country blues twang on it.

chefhmboyrd 06-11-2012 08:50 AM

like this one too.....
could really rip them a new one with this..............

LaneyDoll 06-11-2012 09:29 AM

Do not sing anything the judges sing. You do not want that to bite you in the ass like it does most everyone who tries it.

Mostly a tenor? How about "Con te Partiro" by Andrea Bocelli?

(Sorry, I cannot post a link from work)

First of all Good Luck! I think it's great you are auditioning. Red and I are hooked on "The Voice".

I personally like to see those that step outside the box and go for something that is very entertaining. I would suggest you choose something in your vocal range that you can mix up and make your own. Show them how diverse you can be as a singer.

Once again Good Luck!

I like how Uncle Kracker did Drift Away....plus you can get a little audience participation there at the end. I don't know voices, but it doesn't *seem* like one that is too hard to sing plus it's upbeat and engaging (IMO).

Good luck!!

A friend of mine auditioned for the voice,,he got one of those invite cards..but my friend turned them down. Seem's if you had anything published u have to give up your rights to them :| Jon was a popular Christian music artist in the 80's and won awards and even worked with Stevie Wonder. Make sure ya check out all the fine print.

Other than that,,I LOVE the voice,,its a great show! Good luck hope ya knock em out !

i'm pretty sure they can't take all the copy rights, but maybe some performance rights. i don't "officially" have any publishing deals so i am not too worried about that.

i just want to pick a song that i can sink my teeth into and make an impression.......

I think you could pull off a sweet rendition of "The Dance" by Garth.

Blade 06-11-2012 12:18 PM

It would be hard to tell someone what to sing having not ever heard them sing. My advice would be to sing something that you are very familiar with, yet a song they may not be familiar with,ex...a song that wasnt cut as a single off of a CD, a song that shows the depth of your range and a song that you can dub with your own adlibs....the first examples that come to mind on this are Elvis' live in concert version of "How Great Thou Art" or both Diana Ross and Lionel Richie's parts in Endless Love. Great range expression and they threw in a lot of extra vocal adlibing in both of these songs.

As someone else said don't sing a song made popular by one of the judges and try to get the audience going. You want to capture your audience, like I hope this never ends, not make them feel captured, like when is this going to end.

Corkey 06-11-2012 01:47 PM

How about Daniel Bedingfeild "If you're not the one"?

Daktari 06-11-2012 03:31 PM

May I venture that you don't do any well known power ballads, they're far too predictable...and very Friday-night karaoke! Pick a song you know suits your voice and makes you feel good to sing.

Sorry I can't recommend any songs as I've never heard you sing. Can you sing a cappella?

LaneyDoll 06-11-2012 06:35 PM

Con te Partiro

My fave version...

Him alone...
