Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and "The Big Bopper" were killed in a plane crash in Iowa shortly after take off. Buddy's base player gave up his seat on the plane so a sick Big Bopper could fly instead of drive. We know that base player as the late Waylon Jennings.
