Thats a lot of guests. I notice this site gets a LOT of guests.

Are they members who don't want to log on because they don't want to be seen?

Are they members who can't log on because they are at work?

Are they banned members/members on a long time out?

Curious non-butch-femme folk?

(I finally have 5 days off YEAY!!!!! and I'm supposed to be doing school work for those days, so of course I thought I'd pop in before I start and piddle around briefly before rolling up my sleeves for the grind...)

Bots, that never crossed my mind.....now I`m wondering just how many are bots.

Oddly enough I was just pondering why its so often such a difference between guests and members viewing the site when I was logging on and then I saw this thread ! I wondered why if there is such interest we dont see that many new members posting though I do notice the `welcome to our newest`member message on the home page often enough but not many seem to post as far as I am aware. If Martina is correct and most of the guests are bots then the site is even quieter then I realised.

Every two years I have to complete 24 credits worth of education. I've don't most of it, but they have made a social media course mandatory this year because there are so many younger practitioners qualifying past the Boards. Its now seen as a desirable first career for 18 year olds when they leave school (I dunno, you get about 12 years absolute max before you blow your body if you are extremely careful, except for the *very* lucky few).

And they are doing really stupid shit like friending patients on their personal (not professional) FB page :s

They aren't even separating having a professional page from a private, locked down, unsearchable, private page. Der.

And the images they post :s of themselves!! holy cow newbies! You can't do that! Medical Field! *Face palm*

So, because of the giant stupid, we ALL now have to do 2 MANDATORY on line courses due Oct 31st. Hoorayyyy... I had already booked my holiday, but now I have to spend it doing school work. Hooorayyyy.

Sometimes I leave the page up in safari after I log out on my phone if I’m in a hurry. But safari isn’t left open so I don’t know if that would show as a guest or not. I log in to browse though so again... Not sure.

I agree. On another forum, there's usually WAY more "guests" or bots online than registered members. On that site it even says, "# members", "# guests", "# robots". The number of robots are always in the hundreds (usually).

They could be bots or they could be real live human beings. Eeek! :p Depends on how Admin has the landing (home) page set up … as in … is it searchable or not searchable. <-- that is my recollection from years past on how one can set up a forum and/or website. Either way, Admins can (usually) tell if each "visit" is a person or a bot. Web traffic is important data!

Honestly i don't care. Thats for the admin to deal with. Shrugs

I just always thought it was perv straight men spying, but now that I think about it, it could be some bi ones too.

I'm never too concerned with who might be watching me or glances at my profile page... I am not paranoid and never worry over this.

In fact, when someone views my profile page it makes my day! I take it as I've either posted something or said something in chat that intrigues them enough to send them on a information gathering mission!

I'll give a little breakdown about what I see on the traffic logs on average:

About 50% of the guest activity are search spiders - These are the autobots that crawl the net and report back to Google and other search engines what can be found here so that our site is indexed on search listings.

About 25% of the guest activity is actual unique ip addresses of people browsing and reading who have never logged in here before.

About 10% of the guest activity is from actual members who come to read the site without being logged in (Yes, I can SEEEEEEEEEEE YOOOOUUUUUU)

About 10% of the guest activity is from harmful bots trying to DOS attack us, sniff for security breaks, or scoop personal information from public posts. (Hence, never ever EVER post your email, identifying info, or phone number in public web spaces)

About 5% of the guest activity is from members who are no longer welcome here. Yes, it's pretty constant. Yes, some of them have been coming back for YEARS. Yes, some of them have attempted to sign up for well over 100 new screen names. I haven't caught them 100% of the time, but they always get caught (thanks to folks being vigilant and alerting us when people out themselves in private message or when our own members notice strange activity).


When you see the record number of guests recorded at 6500, it's because we were under a DOS attack at that time and had thousands of bots trying to shut our site down.

Hope this helps give a little better insight into the behind the scenes happenings!
