64 Saved as "Class Afloat" Ship Sinks off Brazil
This story struck fear into my heart as the daughter of one of my oldest friends has sailed on this ship and was supposed to sail on it again. An email response from her mother confirmed that she wasn't supposed to be on it again until the summer. (WHEW!)
It certainly speaks to the training they must have received that everyone survived. Perhaps some of the seasoned sailors among us can shed some light on what happened. Story is here. |
Mico burst is a sudden and dramatic down draft of air, much like in a plane if the gust is strong enough it can and has resulted in crashes and sinkings. They may never have known it was coming due to the darkness, and it could have come in a thunderstorm. The amount of sail up to catch that wind may have capsized them. I'm glad to hear all were saved.

Mother Nature is not to be messed with by man. She wins all the time. Just like rogue waves sinking fishing vessels. Nobody sees it until after it hits. Then it is too late.

Actually Andrew there were two fishermen killed near here just yesterday. The ocean is an angry lady at times. I'm still marvelling at what a miracle it was that everyone was rescued!
