Near Galveston Island in Texas there is an even smaller island where roseate spoonbills nest
The alligators that also live on this island have unusually pink mouths and some even have a slight pink tinge around their eyes.
The naturalist who took me on a tour of the island said it was because the alligators eat so many spoonbills (who intern eat those shrimp that make them pinker) that they pick up the coloring. Voila!
