There's a bit of a story to go with this one...
Don't assume people can't hear or see you. Sometimes, looks or words can cut to the bone.
Earlier tonight, MBE and I went out to eat at Olive Garden. So, we sat down and two men and a woman sat down behind us. Obviously, being trans and in the midwest, I keep an eye out for...potentially dangerous situations. Huh, I noticed one alright.
One of the guys slid his chair out away from the table, in the aisle, to turn to look at me. Being deaf, I couldn't hear the conversation but I could only imagine.
MBE told me what was said. Apparently the three were discussing whether I was male or female. One "gentleman" said he couldn't tell and he had on his glasses. At this time was when the other man turned to look. I usually meet all stares with a gaze back. He noticed and turned away instantly.
At this time, I didn't know yet what they had been discussing but I suspected from the man's reaction that they had been discussing me.
MBE confirmed that when she asked me if they were looking at me.
Well, this went on and on until MBE turned around and went off on them.
As some might know, and Wolfy might remember, I have bad social anxiety, so my anxiety is going through the roof so MBE takes a look at me and asks me if I need to go. I nod and bolt.
The waitress came back and asked her if I was ok. MBE made sure she was in earshot of the 3 people and told her no I wasn't ok and what had happened.
Waitress was appalled.
MBE came out and raged more understandably.
So, that's my final message for the night.
