The above idiom operates on the antiquated idea that if someone finds something that is not owned or abandoned, then the "finder" feels entitled to keep it.

There's not much good in pushing this type of mindset or ideology because there's nothing honest about taking something that does not really belong to you.

I don't like the saying or mindset.
