Memorial Day is Monday May 31 this year. It is a day to remember the women and men of all walks of life who gave up their lives in belief of their country.
Although I am not an American, I do believe it's important to remember those who were lost physical, those who were lost mentally and those who lost their inner soul.
In Canada we remember through the wearing of poppies (Remembrance Day falls on the 11th month, 11th hour, 11th min, 11th second). And on that day, I remember as a child, we recited "In Flanders Field". So, to remember the Americans' who have given up their lives here, I hope it's ok to recite that here as well.
Quote:
In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
