Esme from Esme Weatherwax from Terry Pratchett's Discworld stories - bestowed upon me as a nickname (and used thereafter as an online alias by me) by a near 7ft rugby playing lad after seeing me lose my patience and verbally (textually?) tear an idiot to shreds that was simply being insulting to me in what was supposed to be a discussion on a serious matter. Said 7ft lad was thereafter always referred to as Detritus (another Discworld character - we were both in the Discworld chat group as well)

The rest is simply acknowledging that I am the daughter of my mother, in the style of name used by the Renunciates in Marion Zimmer-Bradley's Darkover tales.
