My fiancee' is from Argentina. They have a drink with a custom one must follow to enjoy it with them....mate'.
There is a RIGHT way to imbibe...I passed muster on my very first go at it... . Now I love mate' with my mate....
The one who makes it has a special carafe of hot water, and a mate' cup with a special metal straw, flattened on one end, and the loose leaf brew is made with said hot water...and refilled after emptied each time, passed to the left to as many folks as are present...and you have to drink the brew in one sip and NOT move straw around in mix....and you have one long "slurp" at end...not a series...in other words, your mouth & sucking has to take it all in one drink...equivalent of a demitasse cup full
It tastes wonderful and I love that she shares her South American customs with me.
