This was part of Miles' repetoire when he returned to creating music in the 80s after taking a needed break.

People wanted him to play old-timey jazz (his words) and he was not here for that. He didn't want any part of looking in that rear-view mirror. I didn't like it, but I got it.

This song was letting us know he still had the blues (and jazz), but just from a different view.
