I think that behavior modification can be useful---BUT, it can also be so painfully simplistic and even cruel...I used to write BM programs...detailed and intense programs for patients who were felt to be incapable of self awareness so the 'goal' was to change the target behaviors, those which were causing the most day-to-day problems...the programs took forever to develop and write...then had to go through a strict committee approval process...there was something disturbingly superior and othering about the whole experience...I didn't like it, although since I can be crazy detailed and analytical, I did a good job...

it's simplistic to think that by forcing someone to change a behavior that the underlying cause is remediated...I think that there may well be whole other behaviors which arise to replace the modified ones...kind of like squishing those balls which redistribute the jell inside as it's compressed in different places...

that is my random yap for this morning as I randomly think on things...
