Try opening it with Notepad or use vi. Copy the file first (to ensure the original is kept safe), change the copy's extension to .txt and use a plain text editor (not word or other more robust ones) to open it. Either at the top or bottom, it should indicate the encryption type.

I finally figured it out but Im filing this trick away for later

The original file was encrypted with ASCII then ZIPPED with another file and then encrypted AGAIN with binary.
