I'm not too sure about which of two threads about butch clothes to post ... but there are two things on my mind today. Again, re eBay.
While perusing men's jackets, I noticed that there were a lot of tux jackets listed. Some were the ? made stuff, some rentals, etc. There's something for nearly anyone, should you be in the market. Great prices on known quality makers, and good wools, too. Real bargains to be had, just in time for the holidays. Or, next years reunion.
Maybe I'm the only one who did not know this, but there is a lot of things to do before purchasing on line.
To purchase a jacket or coat, one takes a coat of similar material, lays it on a flat surface, and measures the "chest", from armpit to armpit - double this for the correct size; then, measure the sleeve, either from the shoulder seam to end of cuff, or from the midpoint at the back of the neck to the cuff; then, from shoulder seam to shoulder seam. Turn jacket over, and measure from the base of collar to the hem for the length.
Now, the above are the most common measurements given on eBay. There are occasional variations. However, these measurements are typical for a generalized masculine figure. So, you may need to ask about the waist measurement. Or, if appropriate for your shape, the approximate abdominal measurement. It's a lot of work, I know, but worth it if you purchase online. I'm learning things about my body that I normally ignore
Just some musings here and hope to share this info with anyone who has not tried this way of shopping, and currently considers doing so.
