Why would it be unusual to need to know Spanish is Texas? Many of us call it Tejas. Mexico is our southern border. Our heritage is better for their influence. Similarly in my home state of Louisiana--the Spanish held it before the French took over. In fact, you can tell who won by what they call the moss hanging from the trees.

The Spanish called it Frenchman's Beard but the French tagged it Spanish Moss.

I love the cultural diversity our lovely melting pot of a country has, don't you?
