I LOVE my new job!!
I consider today a very successful day!! (despite my raging headache)
This job really makes me feel like I "make a difference"!
I was able to make 3 very good Outreach Efforts to the Department of Social Services Child Care Program (who deal with foster children and parents returning to work, transitioning off of Welfare) and to the WIC Program at the Health Department. They welcomed me as a new member of their Team, after I found out that they previously had no clue of the services "we" offer or the fact they could refer parents and children to me for Health Care Coordination Services. When I walked away, it felt really good knowing how much I can offer these Programs and the over-loaded, over-worked caseworkers. Today, I felt like my struggle and stress in my previous job suddenly was ALL WORTH IT and I finally found a job where I can make a difference!!
While talking about Autism and Developmental Screenings provided by our program, the supervisor introduced me to a co-worker. This young mother has a 2 year old who may or may not be on the Autism Spectrum. I was able to set her up with reliable and valuable resources, educated her a bit about "developmental surveillance" -vs- "developmental/autism screening" and "calmed her nerves" by reassuring her that she "can take control" of the situation, educate herself and be prepared to ask the right questions when her son is screened by a professional.
Just the look of relief on her face and watching a "weight lift" from her shoulders gave me a huge sense of accomplishment. She had been so overwhelmed and scared.
You can accomplish much in this world by making a difference for ONE person. I do believe in "Pay It Forward". Your efforts will blossom to touch many people and their lives.
