my haircut
i think that the inequality of gender-related haircuts is very unfair and confusing. due to my being a Roshi and Taoist monk *smile, for now*, i keep my hair extremely short, esp. for a femme. think Pema Chodron, if you've seen a pic of her. i used to go to a barbershop to get it cut, got a very nice cut and usually extremely good service, not to mention cool conversation, for 10.00. when i go to a chain unisex shop, the price goes up to 15.00 b/c i'm a woman. if i go to an upscale beauty salon, the price can vry from 20-35.00, depending up and locale. now my housemate does it for free. i must admit to missing the barbershops, though. i had the sense of being on "other" territory and getting a peak into another world. but i've been told by locals that women here do NOT go into barbershops! bo,bo,bo! so either i spend 15.00, more incl. tip, or get it cut by my housemate. my only complaint w/my hair is that it's refusing to turn gray! i'm 50 in May, and it's still medium brown w/some auburn highlights in the sun. i'm entering the second half of my life. i want my gray hair!
namaste,
DamselFly
