My neighbors. Yeah, there is one old coot that gets to me sometimes, but I have the best neighbors in the world. My little bungalow is in a 1940's working class area with ages from 7 months to 101!

We have block "Save the Night" annual parties, all join in our Neighborhood Watch program and walk up to the neighborhood park to watch everyone's kids playing soccer and baseball.

There is me, the butch, a lesbian couple, a few widows, straight couples and kids of all ages. We are white, Japanese, Chinese, Latino, African American, Turkish, and Libyan.

When one sees I am having a lot of pain and not getting around so well, they call or stop by to see if I am OK. ask if I need something from the grocery store or whatever. They watch my house when I am away. Someone will put my garbage cans back in the drive-way for me if I can't hobble out and do it.

I am respected and honored as a homeowner on this block and I return the same. I have no problem with being a good neighbor back with making sure my dog doesn't bark, making too much noise or take the parking spot on the street that one of them usually uses. The pride taken in my yard and home upkeep is for myself but it is also for them. We share pride of ownership and consider each other's sensitivities- and we all have them! It's just being a good neighbor!
