I'm with all of you....my son is 13 also and his writing (cursive and printing) is horrific. The teachers in NY just accepted it and shrugged it off ....and taught him cursive incorrectly so that he was writing as if he was left-handed (which he isn't).

Luckily, his teachers here in FL took one look at his writing and said "we need to work on that" and it's much better. Still bad, but better.

I'm hoping the high school continues the work, and I need to work with him more myself, too.

I think both keyboarding and writing by hand are important....why in the world would the schools seem to feel that they're mutually exclusive?
