The corn or wheat tortillas is a great alternative! I have a friend that actually brings her own wheat tortillas... because most of the restaurants don't carry them (at least where I live).

D's mom orders corn tortillas and breaks them in pieces and eats them with the salsa... instead of the fried chips. I looked at her like she was crazy, but actually it was pretty good.

You are right the beans are good for you... but unfortunately, I don't think that the refried beans are. A few places are starting to offer the borracho (sp?) or black beans as the alternative. You are right about the rice, that's why I do my best to just say no to it.
