As to carrying everything, I would say it would be very rare would I carry my smart phone, my laptop and my kindle with me. It would be a duplication of utility and it would be rather laborious and bulky and (to me) defeat one of the main purposes of the kindle - it is small, light, easily portable and stores 1000s of books.
I think Dee was pointing out that the kindle is not really the best device if you want to be able to surf the internet. If you want an e-reader that has internet surfing capacity you're probably better looking at the ipad or the new kindle fire.
My smart phone functions as a mini-laptop when I'm on the run; so unless I am traveling for business or traveling for an extended period of time - I would be unlikely to carry my laptop with me. I can easily order books for my kindle on my phone (with the amazon app) and they are sent wirelessly from my amazon account to my kindle.

Hi Sparkle.....Thank you for the response. Dee and I have a history. She very patiently will explain this stuff to me, just as you have. I greatly appreciate it when that happens. Especially the great examples. It took me forever to get to the IPHONE. Also, I have Photophobia, big word for inability to tolerate lights and patterns, and I knew this about the kindle (and am glad you reiterated it, so I didn't get lost in all the techy stuff)
Any thoughts on the new version of the IPAD introduced yesterday (not an Ipad, the competition)? And thanks again!
