I weigh the left overs
take the grams and yardage and divide for yards per gram
and times the #of grams left by the yards per gram to find out how much yarn I have left. Sometimes there is enough left for a hat or a baby item or a small toy.
If there isn't a lot left then I throw it out
there is a pattern that is called the bee keepers quilt that uses scrap yarn and there are a lot of indie dyers that now specifically dye mini skeins of yarn for this pattern.
