Some people go to the mountain and are contented at the lodge, taking in the beauty and all the possibilities it has to offer... some people aren't contented even yet they want more, they need to climb the mountain. They choose to leave the lodge to travel the death zone to attempt to quench that craving... despite the tax it takes on them, and their families they to risk it all, in name of the almighty "more".
It takes a particular type of person to choose that, and to make it more rare... many who thought they could are still there.
Why did they climb the mountain... because it was there.
