The reason the film came and went without much notoriety is because it wasn't very good. Unfortunately, since the novel is one of GGM's best novels. I am not sure if getting the DVD is worth it, except that the movie does have some beautiful scenes since it was filmed on location.

The song is beautiful, I have the movie track and this one has always been my favorite. Shakira's voice is amazing, but you are right, it is often overlooked because of her other many attributes.

As for the lyrics...yes they are.
