My son's school called this morning with a recorded message saying that he wasn't there and that I needed to call to explain his absence. Since I watched him get on the bus this morning I, of course, had a minor panic attack at this news! I called the school and found out that his bus arrived at the school a little late. His homeroom teacher had already taken attendance and neglected to update the roll to reflect that my son arrived. WHAT??? What kind of system is that?? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the school checks in about absences....but holy hanna!! You can't just call a parent and tell her that her child didn't arrive at school!! Did you even consider the kind of panic that sets off in a mother when you tell her that the child she put on the bus didn't actually make it to the school?? If you know a bus arrived late, CHECK the attendance before you make that phone call!!!
