Native Americans have ofter held intersex,androgynous people,feminine males,masculine women in high respect. Rather than emphasising the homosexuality of these persons, the focus was on their spiritual gifts. Those who are traditional,tend to see a persons basic character as a reflection of their spirit. Since everything that exists is thought to have come from the spirit world,androgynous or transgender persons are seen as doubly blessed having both the spirit of the man and the spirit of the female.
