Default deleting of accounts and other admin suggestions...

Ok, for the record.... I just want to be crystal clear here, because it must be said:

I was never comfortable being 'crowned' a Tech Guru (speaking only for myself, not Mr. Linus). I went along with all that hype to *cough* be polite... (besides kinda hard to be be a guru with both hands tied behind ones back)

I'd like to bring up another subject that yes I'll admit has been prompted by a discussion on another vbulletin site, and that's the matter of deleting accounts, or when it's requested to do so.

Admin please see this only as a suggestion, the last thing I want to come across as is patronizing. But I'm very ... perturbed.

A user felt no recourse but to ask for their account to be deleted in a public thread. Now, I'm not an idiot it seems to be the *opposite* of what one should do if they don't want to use their account. I also get that deleting accounts and threads and posts and things can cause corruption of data in databases (check). (never mind that there's optimized tools for that and 'techy' things aren't 100% such is life)

So here's my suggestion for here just is would work *elsewhere*. Putting a username into a usergroup where the username doesn't show up in the membership list is hella easy. (just ask June as she's dancing in the "Coppa"cabana) That's step one. Step two: deleting posts... not something you might choose to do but if you feel this person is genuinely concerned for their safety, there is something called the "soft delete" making all posts invisible for public consumption.

Sorry if I I'm sounding frustrated folks but I think as *this* site grows issues like this will crop up. And with a lot of things, there usually are exceptions to 'rules'.

just ask June... as she's still dancing at the 'Coppa'cabana.

(with plenty of snarky goodness in the direction of the snark queen).

Admin - what say ye? feel free to discuss this more in private.
To the rest, my apologies if this post is laced with a few not-so private jokes.
