Oh, I don't put any effort into it, as I said before the place is pretty empty. You know, people also won't give me eye contact there. Like when you are passing by them and you smile they either avoid contact or don't smile/look through you. Is this normal? Perhaps they are "in their own heads" I think I need to go with TF to Planet Fitness to assess this I called my place a ghetto gym due to the small number of machines. It actually was probably a poor choice of words to begin with. Sorry
It is an employee gym. I work at a hospital/outpatient medical offices. Hospital nurses do tend to be grumpy people. Perhaps it is carry over from their work day?

First, the size of a person is not a determinator (determining factor, but I like the way I said it first better) of their fitness level. I'm pretty sure we all know this but I just wanted to put it out there. Second, some people will care and some won't. You'll get that anywhere you go.
Is it in a high crime area? That might be a reason people don't go looking around. If so, find another gym.
You have a point. People may cruise at that gym but, from my experience, that seems to happen at the larger brands and those that are right on the beach kind of gym, where there are a lot of 'hard bodies'.
I think you should just relax and work out and not think about where you should or should not look. That takes too much effort away from your workout, which is why you are there, right?
