World-class idiot right here.
At 5:15, I took my son and his friends to a trampoline park about a mile from my house, as the crow flies. To get there is a straight shot, but to get back home, I have to actually pass my house, do a U-turn, and come back. There is a hill on the way past. Weather: Not a flake in sight.
At 7:00, when I went to pick them up, it was a blizzard and getting harder. There were at least two inches of snow already on the ground. I got there and picked them up without too much incident, but became hopelessly stopped on the return road. We waited for at least an hour with little movement when I was surprised to see my neighbor in the window. She offered to take all the kids back home (walking a trail that cuts through the divide), and I accepted.
Volunteers, or maybe angels, were at the hill telling cars how to get up it and letting them go one at a time. Others were spaced along the hill in case of spinouts. I arrived home at 11:05.
Never have I been in sight of home for four hours, and not been able to get there!
Lesson learned; Weather comes in fast here. And now I have a new empathy for Atlanta last week.
