Ok so I'm here at the hospital with a dear friend. Her appearance is that of a heteronormative woman. My appearance is that of a gender non-conforming butch woman. Here are my thoughts for discussion:
Isn't it interesting that her "straight appearance" (she is straight) never is enough to make anyone think that i am straight too? Why do I magically lesbianize whomever I'm walking next to?
When the staff refer to her as my partner, do i say "We are not a couple. Lesbians can have straight friends." Or should I let people practice what it's like to be around people they perceive as gay?
Also: Hospital gowns are non-gendered garments. How is it that she looks so different then I do when I've had to wear them recently? Amazing. She looks good!
