The Internets
When I was younger, my friends and I had to save money from our weekly allowances to buy music. It might take us two or three weeks to save up for an album, depending on our spending habits. No one had a collection of all the hits, so we would borrow from each other. I might loan my Martha Reeves album to a friend for the weekend who in turn would let me borrow their album by the Temptations or Al Green. And there were some albums (i.e., Marvin Gaye's What's Goin' On, Stevie Wonder's Songs In the Key of Life, and damn near anything by James Brown or Aretha) that you had to purchase because no one would let you borrow them--these albums were on the no-loan list. We really had a great system for listening to music outside of the radio, but it was nothing compared to being able to access music on the Internet ...
I'm thankful for the Internet and music is one of many reasons why.
