Tito could hard bebop with the best of them (Dizzy, Blakey, etc.), but I loved when he approached a song softly, gently, intimately. When Tito played intimately, he got a bad rap for sounding a lot like Art Tatum, but damn, how bad can you be if you sound like Art??? You'd be hard pressed to find five pianists—dead or alive—who could rock a keyboard like Art Tatum. Yeah, I like Tito's softer side, too.
