Kitty Diva, who is 12 years old, has started mewing like a little kitten when she wants to be fed. I do not understand why. In the past, some regular, loud cat meows were adequate, and I understood perfectly well what I was supposed to do: put food in her bowl. However, now she is making these tiny, high "mew mew mew" sounds. It's kind of cute, but I'm a bit worried that I'm missing the point of whatever nuanced kitty message she is trying to send me.
I am very familiar with these cat messages. I think it's an attempt at mind control. They distract you with the incessant meowing; while your brain is otherwise engaged, they're mucking around in there and trying to program your behavior.

My cat started making those pitiful sounding "mew mew mew" sounds in the last year. I think she just wants attention, but there are times when I want to tear my hair out because she just won't stop. She likes to run to the opposite end of the apartment, as far away as she can get, and then start mewing like she's been abandoned. It's really annoying. Good luck with your cat! If you find the answer to this problem, let me know.
