Default Medea

Medea
Madea
Mo'dea'

I grew up north of the Mason/Dixon line and like some other children in the north, I'd sometimes go to the south to visit aunts and uncles for the summer break. In some Black families in the south, it was common to call the matriarch Mother Dear, and it was often shortened to Mo'dea', Medea, or Madea, in letters, cards, and spoken language.

Contrary to what Tyler Perry would have you beleive (!) this term of endearment for older Black women has nothing to do with the Greek mythology, it's just another way of saying "Mother Dear."

So, as much as I dislike Tyler Perry and the way he has bastardized this word, my word for today is Medea.
