Default Cannonball Adderley - Work Song

I didn't appreciate this song until I heard others (including MJQ and Wes Montgomery) try to cover it. Sounds like an easy song to cover, but it's not. The difficulty is in the tempo, I think. There's a snap to this song that's similar to the snap you hear in chain-gang song. And it's a snap that's driven by everyone, not just the drummer.

Cannonball recorded a number of versions of this song, but this is my favorite because Cannonball's solo (starting at the 0:48 mark) goes from sounding like a woman wailing to butterflies high on pollen. I love it.

Gonna see if i can find the full album on youtube.

Musicians in this set:
Sam Jones – bass
Louis Hayes – drums
Joe Zawinul – piano
Yusef Lateef – tenor saxophone, flute, oboe
Nat Adderley – cornet
Cannonball Adderley – alto saxophone
