Another one of my father's favorites. I used to roll my eyes when he put this on the turntable (or when everyone in the house had to be quiet because Errol Garner was on Tne Ed Sullivan Show!) but I can now appreciate Garner. His playing can be a little too Liberace-like for me, but his sledgehammer of a left hand makes up for it. I can now see how Errol's left hand was like an instrument on its own. An instrument that would drive, not only Errol's playing, but at times it was the force beneath the whole band. Yeah, his left hand was all that and more.
And when it came to doggin' somebody's music, my father gave as well as received. He thought Miles Davis was talentless and arrogant, and he thought Alvin and the Chimpmonks sounded better that the Jackson Five. Though he did like the Temptations after hearing a recording of them singing Old Man River (I still roll my eyes on that one).
