Default A Studio Visit...in The Telling...

Crossing the Barrier

It began with another knock on my studio door
had been waiting for it

the New Model I called for -
I wanted her this afternoon,
Now.

Go to door, open

this New Model comes to me
Full of Life.

As she walks past me the glow
of excitement and expectation
radiates from her every pore
filling my studio with the
freshness of a Spring rain

her black eyes shadowed by her
long, thick lashes

doe eyes with a story to tell.

I show her where she can undress

she asks if she can lie down for a minute -
a minute?! I want to work.

And yet, this New Model has come to me
Full of Life, seven months worth of life
growing within

she undresses, I show her to my bed
I say it's ok - put a fresh sheet before
she lays down - Sun streaming in

I return to the clay to prepare for after
the "minute".

I build armature, roll the air out of lumps
of clay...

she's calling, "Please return, please..."
The clock says the minute has turned to
one hour - I return to my bed, and the two
lives there

"Please, please lay with me, hold me."

Stunned, I look at her precious body
Full and carrying Life

Time turns in on itself and I remember
another...

to be continued...
