I was really lucky to have a strong gbltq "support" or alliance group in university.

My bff and I would head off to our "tuesday night meetings". So much fun and really felt less alone.

I don't know how much impact a gay straight alliance would have had in high school because I wouldn't have wanted to be that OUT in a small town. I still had lots of friends, we were all pretty covert.

never felt the need to protest that much in Canada. We were allowed to take gay prom dates, gay marriage has been legal since 2005 if I'm not mistaken?, and we were all pretty much of the " don't let anyone know and some day you will move to a big city" if you were gay in my small town. It was an odd dynamic.

Love hearing about others experiences
